The Bunch of Grapes is your year-round bookstore, your vacation destination, and now your online resource.

The Bunch of Grapes has been Martha’s Vineyard’s year-round, independent, locally-owned bookstore for over 40 years. From humble beginnings as a small Main Street bookshop, it grew under the Nelson family’s ownership to a two-story destination for Islanders, vacationers, authors and even some presidents.

On July 4th, 2008, our neighboring restaurant was destroyed in a fire that ruined our inventory and damaged the bookstore so severely we were forced to close our doors. Fortunately, the store was purchased by then-employee Dawn Braasch on October 21st 2008, and under her leadership, we were able to open a temporary location to keep us in books until the Main Street location re-opened on June 13, 2009.

As we opened this new chapter at the Bunch of Grapes, we designed a space that honors our history, but used our extensive experience to bring the store to the next level. We still have the same staff hand-selecting books for you, but now have a beautiful, open, welcoming space in which to display those books. We love it, and hope you do too.

Now we look to the future. Our next step is to bring the Bunch of Grapes into your home. Through our website, blog, Facebook and Twitter, we can provide the same expertise you get in our store. You can order our entire inventory, plus the inventory available from our warehouses, online with the option to pick up your purchases at the store or have them shipped to you. You can ask the booksellers questions or hear their recommendations. See what’s new, and what excites us. For those of you who have long said that you look forward to returning to the B.o.G. throughout the year while off-Island, there is no more need to wait.
